Chillida. Despertar: BARCELONA
Presented by Mayoral Galeria d'Art, the art exhibition "Despertares" by artist Eduardo Chillida is currently on display until June 27, 2015. Remarkably, after 11 years, another exhibition showcasing Chillida's works is taking place at an art gallery in Barcelona. This exhibition is made in collaboration between Mayoral Galeria d'Art and the Eduardo Chillida-Pilar Belzunce Foundation.
Within the exhibition, visitors can appreciate a carefully curated collection of 11 artworks, featuring sculptures, drawings, and engravings by the renowned Basque artist. Several noteworthy pieces include:
-
Trembling Irons III, crafted in 1957, which represents a pivotal period in Chillida's artistic journey and played a significant role in shaping his subsequent career, solidifying his international acclaim.
-
Estela, produced in 1992. The "estelas" series holds great importance in Chillida's body of work. Throughout his artistic career, he created 69 works under this title. Most of these pieces were made using steel, although there are also versions constructed from materials such as earth, granite, and wood. Some of these sculptures have become public monuments, including the notable Estela a Rafa Balerdi in San Sebastián, the Estela de Gernika, and the Estela VII for the Monument to the Fueros in Vitoria-Gasteiz. It is worth noting that a selection of these pieces pays homage to influential figures in the cultural sector whom Chillida deeply admired, such as Pablo Picasso, Manolo Millares, Pablo Neruda, Salvador Allende, and Edgar Allan Poe, among others.
The exhibition also presents a captivating collection of photographs showcasing Chillida's monumental works installed in various public spaces around the world. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a screening of the artist's documentary film, "El arte y sueños," which provides insights into Chillida's inspirations, his artistic process, and his personal side.
