Dalí. Master at Metamorphoses: BARCELONA
“Salvador Dalí does not exist. He disappeared in the infinite distance that separates a pair of moustaches (of impossible physics) from a pair of exorbitant eyes. It is the same space, the same distance that runs —or not— between desire and fear of death, between the universal and the ultramicroscopic, between genius and virtue, or between a secret of only one and its publication in infinite editions.”
- Ricard Mas, Curator of the exhibition
Mayoral Galeria d’Art presents an exceptional exhibition Dalí. Master at metamorphoses of the artist Salvador Dalí in Barcelona. There are shown a selection of paintings, watercolours, collages, drawings and sculptures.
In this accurately selection of pieces by the artist we highlight a very interesting collection of six Fashion Design drawings that the artist did on 1965. Dalí reached an agreement with the Wisconsin clothing manufacturer Jack A. Winter to design a line of clothing that would include beach, and swimwear, sportswear, and night and home wear for Autumn 1965, and then to show his designs in a travelling exhibition. The models were displayed in Paris that same year, but none of them were ever mass-produced.
The Dalí expert Josep Playà emphasizes: “One of the qualities of Dalí, beyond the aesthetic qualities of his art, is his capacity to anticipate the trends to come and take the spectator by surprise. He gave ample evidence of it with his incursions into the field of science, and more especially in his research of the third dimension, his pirouettes in the cinematographic world, his astonishing performances and his artistic propositions to the greatest fashion designers”. At the same time, as Ricard Mas affirms “That public Dalí, a pioneer of postmodernism, goes much beyond the world of art. We should consider him a cultural referent. He was a painter, of course; but also a writer, a maître à penser, a film-maker, an advertising agent, a showman and the author of the big paradigm shift in contemporary art.”
Mayoral presents the exhibition Dalí. Master at metamorphoses, the result of a research and revision process of the artist, with a programme of conferences and educational activities to safeguard and preserve his artistic legacy. The exhibition has been curated by Ricard Mas and it has been carried out in collaboration with the Fundació Gala- Salvador Dalí of Figueres and The Dalí Museum in St Petersburg, with the family Descharnes and friends of the artist.
