Driven by acceleration and technological ease, we have reached a point of profound transformation within the global art system. A large proportion of the artworks produced throughout the century of the avant-gardes, the various “isms,” and postmodernism may disappear, just as the dominant art of other periods has done. A small part survives and connects with new art. These are works that contain within themselves, beyond the fluctuations of changing taste, a permanent time and a permanent revolt.
The exhibition Permanent Present brings together works by artists who participate in an open system, removed from ease and established conventions. An art that was, and continues to be, created as a synthesis of opposites: in a state of waking dream, of fractured syntax, of arte povera, of matter that speaks, and of a rootedness in the universal ultra-local. A moment of impact and visual illumination in which history and the future meet in an immemorial time.
