In mid-November 2019, Mayoral, a gallery from Barcelona, will open a new space in Paris. Located in the heart of the city’s historic gallery district at Avenue Matignon.
The first exhibition Antonio Saura. Brigitte Bardot et d’autres femmeswill be curated by Martine Heredia and include 6 masterpieces dating from 1956 to 1963. One of these paintings, devoted to Brigitte Bardot, was first exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1964.
Under the leadership of Siân Folley, the gallery will extend its long-term commitment to the French art market and to offering bespoke services to its clients, deepening existing relationships and developing new ones across the city. The space includes a private viewing room as well as the ground-floor gallery where Mayoral will present a programme of curated exhibitions.
As Jordi Mayoral has commented: “Over the past ten years, we have developed strong relationships with collectors and institutions in France. The opening of our Paris gallery consolidates our conviction that Paris plays an important role in the ecosystem of the global art market and that the foundations of Mayoral’s business model – foregrounding important artists from our culture and providing specialized services to collectors and art lovers will flourish here.”
Siân Folley, Director of Mayoral in Paris, added: “I began my career at an international auction house in Paris nearly ten years ago, before working in New York and, latterly, London. To take the helm of Mayoral’s Paris gallery is both a new adventure for me and a return to my roots. This beautiful city and its international audience will no doubt be receptive to Mayoral’s signature experience of taste and quality. We hope to bring the vanguard of Spanish post-war art to a wider collecting base, as well as providing flexible solutions for the rapidly changing needs of our clients.“
